Site Activity Gets Higher Rankings in Google

I just read a report by a reputed expert in SEO that Google is now placing very high weight for site activity.  So, what does this mean?

Quite simply put, the more activity your site has, via comments, the greater chance your site will rank well in Google searches.  Wow, really?

It’s true.  Google wants to see that your site is active, not only by you posting on a regular basis, but also that your visitors are actually visiting your posts and taking action as a result.  This is done via commenting.

Encouraging comments on your posts is probably one of the most difficult things to do at first.  Nobody wants to be the first to write a comment until your site has so many visitors that folks are scrambling to be the first one to post a comment.  Why is this?  It’s simple, it gives them visibility to the thousands that are visiting the site.  People will generally read the first few comments, but rarely will read all 473 of them :-) .

There are several things you can do to encourage activity on your website:

1.  Send out an autoresponder message that points to your new blog post.

2.  Create a contest for commenters to participate in.

3.  Offer something in exchange for their comment.

4.  Offer something special if they are the first to post a comment.

5.  Be sure to post great content often on your blog; at least once a week.

6.  Don’t be afraid to post controversial content on your blog.  Take a stand for what you believe in, and welcome opposing comments.  Some folks just love to be contrary!

7.  Negative comments are NOT a bad thing.  It is often the negative comments that get the ball rolling with lots of comments to follow.

By following these simple steps, you’ll be amazed at the results your website will get in ranking higher in the search engines and actually being found by those searching for what you have to offer.

Is Your Website Optimized for Visitors?

There’s lots of info floating around the Internet these days downplaying the importance of SEO and singing the praises of Social Media as a viable substitute.  I’m here to tell you that there is NO substitute for SEO (Search Engine Optimization), but your website needs to be optimized not just for the Search Engines, but also for your visitors.  This is critical to your success in online marketing.

I utilize a checklist to analyze a website’s visitor optimization.  Here’s the list:

1.  Light background, dark text is easiest to read

2.  Phone number in upper right corner of site in bold font

3.  Address at the bottom of the page

4.  Lead capture form available

5.  FAQ Section

6.  Credentials such as BBB, trade organization affiliations prominently displayed

7.   Customer testimonials

8.  Video

9.  Pictures of your facility, you (business owner), your staff, your happy customers, etc

10.  Clear call to action.  (What does the site owner want visitors to do?)

Your website should make your visitors feel welcome and answer their most pressing questions, address their concerns and show you are the expert for them to turn to.   It should encourage their input via comments and an opt-in form where they can acquire additional information.

While static web pages used to be enough to satisfy most searches, today’s consumers are looking for ways to interact with you.  The perfect way for you to provide that is via a blog.  Blogs are very interactive, and oh, by the way, search engines and visitors love them!

About 4 weeks ago, I started working out 3 – 4 times a week.  At 53 years old, it has been quite an experience, but I wanted to get into better shape after having quit smoking about 2 months ago.  Each day I would show up at my daughter’s house at 8am to begin our work-out.  It took discipline.  It took a bit of courage, too.  But I can tell you, it is paying off.  I feel better than I have in a long time.  I’m starting my day off on a positive note, which sets the entire day for more positive actions, and has long-lasting effects on my health.

Creating an online lead capture system is a lot like exercising.  It’s  not difficult, but pays tremendous dividends now and in the future.  So why do most local businesses overlook setting up a lead capture system?  My best guess is a lack of knowledge.

Here’s what a lead capture system can do for your business:

1.  Capture qualified, targeted leads (potential customers) for you that are looking for what you have to offer.

2.  All you to develop a relationship with these potential customers.

3.  Provide an avenue to access them on a regular, consistent basis with your message.

4.  Provide a way for you to communicate last minute deals to increase your sales in a slow month.

5.  Establish a list of loyal customers that you can sell your products/services to over and over again.

A lead capture system is an effective, time-saving way to capture leads, develop a relationship with those leads, and sell your products and services to them over and over again completely on automation.   Once it is set up, you can forget it and it will continue to provide you with quality, targeted leads for your business month after month for years to come!  What is that worth to your business?

A lead capture system has several important components; a squeeze page, an opt-in form, a gift such as a special report, and autoresponder messages set up to communicate, educate, and develop the relationship.

If you’d like a lead capture system set up for your business, give me a call.  I can design a lead capture system to help your business capture all the leads your business can handle at a very affordable rate.  You’d be surprised at how many leads/customers you’re currently missing out on by not having a lead capture system in place for your business.
