Site Activity Gets Higher Rankings in Google
I just read a report by a reputed expert in SEO that Google is now placing very high weight for site activity. So, what does this mean?
Quite simply put, the more activity your site has, via comments, the greater chance your site will rank well in Google searches. Wow, really?
It’s true. Google wants to see that your site is active, not only by you posting on a regular basis, but also that your visitors are actually visiting your posts and taking action as a result. This is done via commenting.
Encouraging comments on your posts is probably one of the most difficult things to do at first. Nobody wants to be the first to write a comment until your site has so many visitors that folks are scrambling to be the first one to post a comment. Why is this? It’s simple, it gives them visibility to the thousands that are visiting the site. People will generally read the first few comments, but rarely will read all 473 of them
.
There are several things you can do to encourage activity on your website:
1. Send out an autoresponder message that points to your new blog post.
2. Create a contest for commenters to participate in.
3. Offer something in exchange for their comment.
4. Offer something special if they are the first to post a comment.
5. Be sure to post great content often on your blog; at least once a week.
6. Don’t be afraid to post controversial content on your blog. Take a stand for what you believe in, and welcome opposing comments. Some folks just love to be contrary!
7. Negative comments are NOT a bad thing. It is often the negative comments that get the ball rolling with lots of comments to follow.
By following these simple steps, you’ll be amazed at the results your website will get in ranking higher in the search engines and actually being found by those searching for what you have to offer.
